Q&As!
What is Camille doing now?
Currently I work for my Alma Mater, the University of Southern Mississippi! Having spent my last semester abroad, I did not do much auditioning, since I knew I would not have time to move as most theatres were beginning rehearsals for their seasons in those summer months. Upon my return, USM offered me an assistantship focusing mainly on theatre and dance management. After a few months though, I was offered a promotion! Now I work full time as the Administrative Specialist of the School of Performing and Visual Arts.
Do you have childcare experience?
Yes! I love working with kids and have for a good portion of my life. I started helping my mother with Sunday School at Christ Episcopal Church at a very young age. Eventually I became a Vacation Bible School leader and a youth leader/rector for multiple Episcopal youth events. I was even able to incorporate theatre into my church’s VBS program by directing the kids in short scenes and sing alongs! I was a Girl Scout for 12 years, giving me the opportunity to get involved in a lot of community outreach! I was a Girl Scout camp counselor at Camp Camellia in Slidell for many years. I also served as a counselor for Camp Able, a camp that focuses on the needs of adults and children with disabilities. I was trained in Safeguarding God’s Children, a program in which you learn how to behave and address situations with kids, for example, using the buddy system or bringing attention to a child’s home life if needed. I also have first aid training and handicap accessibility training, which involves lifting/assisting those who are wheelchair bound or those who use mobility devices like a walker or cane.
Where else has Camille received training?
I was very fortunate to have spent this summer in London studying abroad! Not only did I get to see 21 fantastic productions, but I received training in both Shakespear and contemporary theatre at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. While attending college, I took voice lessons with a focus on musical theatre. My work in these lessons led to me becoming top 14 in the country for NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) National Competition in 2022. (I was unable to participate in finals due to covid.) I was also a member of NOCC (the New Orleans Children’s Choir) for five years, receiving extensive training and performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. I was in choirs in High School as well, including the Jazz, Chamber, Womens, and Mixed Choir Ensambles.
Can Camille Dance?
I can certainly move! I know that my strong suits are acting and singing, but I am currently trying to improve my dance skills. I do best with simple choreography, but I do know the vocabulary and have been able to learn some more complicated dances successfully with guidance and practice time!
What other leadership positions/school involvement has Camille had?
I was social chair of Alpha Psi Omega, our theatre honors society at USM, in which I was required to plan cookouts, tailgates, a pumpkin carving, movie nights, a graduation gathering, and assist with initiation and big/little reveal. Simultaneously, I was a Golden Eagle Welcome Week (GEWW) leader. This is similar to being an orientation leader, but instead we assist and encourage a group of new students for one week after move in. Those students are then encouraged to reach out for any help throughout their first year at USM. I was also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, in which I took classes on how to be an efficient and fair leader while holding a 3.0 or higher GPA for my full 4-year track. Additionally, I was an English minor mainly focusing on creative writing. I was on the dean’s list for every semester I attended USM and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
